Genro (Senior Members)
I tentatively call senior devils genro*. They think of cave businesses as duties gifted to them by heaven, which actually ruins the sacredness of work.
To list the names of genro, old ones include Takahashi, Tetsuji Ishida, Jinzaburō Kawamoto, who also goes by Chabujin; they have inseparable relationships with the history of the development of caves in Nelson. Cranbrook has Shinpei Matsumoto and Sentarō Ōta, who died last fall; Fernie has Tokuzō Umino, and others include Taizō Kishida, Tsurutarō Mizoguchi (nicknamed Chatarō), Yonosuke Chiba, Kintarō Hiratsuka, and Rintarō Iida. Toraji Asami is, of course, a member of genro; and, there is also a young ace (!) Takeshi Satō in Saskatoon, who is coming up on the list**.
However, those genro members usually depend their women for their assistance. Examples include Shinpei Matsumoto’s Shige and Santarō Ōta’s Oume. Other powerful women include Toku Terada, Asami’s Otori, Chatarō’s wife Memmy and Mona in Macleod, all of whom cannot be missed.
It is troublesome to list the name of every single devilkind, so I will stop it here. Let me move to a new section and observe the route of cave pioneering.
**In the original source, a baseball term which refers to a pitcher on the bench, waiting to be called up, is used.
