These primary sources present stories of Japanese sex workers who were involved in the transnational and interracial sex trade in the inter-imperial and settler colonial contexts of the mid-19th century through early 20th-century transpacific world. These portrayals are not necessarily facts, but constructions shaped by a particular set of beliefs, ideologies, and structural forces, as well as individual styles of the creators and authors.
